Hypnosis Sessions:

This presentation will elucidate the principles underlying hypnosis and provide some indications of how is can be used in a synergistic way with sedation and anaesthesia.  Issues of spontaneous trance, informed consent, and resistance, as well as its benefits for pain management will be discussed. The material presented will be an introduction to the workshops later in the program. Ways of dealing with specific dental problems will be discussed as time permits. These are workshops, and as much time as possible will be devoted to practising the techniques discussed and demonstrated.

 

Course Instructor:

Dr. James Auld is a dentist with 40 years experience in rural general practice. He has been using hypnosis for all of that time, and has extensive teaching experience in Australia and overseas for over 20 years. He is a Past President of the Australian Society of Hypnosis and the Australian Society for Dental Anaesthesiology, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Australian Society of Hypnosis. He is currently a Senior Clinical Associate of the University of Sydney and Chair of the Board of Education of ASH.


Objectives:

- to understand the power of language and suggestions.

- to learn two rapid induction techniques of immediate application.

- to increase the understanding of the use of hypnosis dental practice.


Continuing Education Credit:

The ADSA is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider and an Accepted National Sponsor (#218597) for FAGD/MAGD Credit. The 1/2 day SimMan course provides five (5) hours of CE credit.

1:30-4:00 Hypnosis Session I (extra fees apply)
Workshop 1.
The structure of suggestions will be discussed, covering language forms, dissociation through unconscious search, the structure of confusion, and recovery of innate resources. This will be related to the format of a typical clinical session, and demonstrated by video and / or group experience if appropriate. Practice in techniques of conversational inductions will be provided.

1:30-4:00 Hypnosis Session II (extra fees apply) 1:30-5:00
Workshop 2.
Hypnosis and hypnotic techniques do not have to be time consuming to obtain benefits for patients. Two rapid induction techniques eminently suited to the clinical situation will be demonstrated, with ways of easily integrating them into practice. Delegates having the opportunity to practice with these with guidance.
